Most folks have heard of the Amelia Earhart Luggage line that was sold through the Macy’s department store chain back in the 1930’s. There were a lot of promotions that Amelia’s husband, George Palmer Putnam Sr., developed back then to raise money for Amelia’s expensive expeditions.  Lots of photo ops and thousands of covers (envelopes autographed by Amelia) were sold to pay for aviation fuel and expenses. The list is extensive. And now there are new Amelia-inspired clothing lines being marketed.

A Korean company has launched a complete line of ladies and children’s clothing designed to look like the clothes Amelia wore on and off the airfield.  A mystery writer is selling children’s t-shirts that feature various heroic figures, and you guessed it, Amelia is among them. There are ads in fashion magazines reviving the classic bomber jacket and “Amelia flight pants” look. And, in the gaming market, “Business Wire” recently reported that the “Amelia Earhart Mystery Game” by Freeze Tag has topped the charts in the action category. The game is one of the hottest sellers in the IPad, PC and MAC platforms.

It’s refreshing to see people admire a real heroine for a change.
