Was Amelia Earhart on a Secret Mission?

03 Nov
Were Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan on a secret mission for the U.S. Government?   11/3/16 That is a question that is almost 80 years old and there is still no definitive answer; or is there?  Possibly the question was answered on May 25, 1938, less than a year after their disappearance, by an article in the Pacific Island Monthly. The article shown below is reproduced from the May 1991 Issue of the Amelia Earhart Society Newsletters by the late Bill Prymak. He faithfully produced these Read more [...]

TRAGEDY OF ERRORS

26 Apr
4/26/16 Fred and I have been reading accounts about the disappearance of Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan since we were kids. We have, like so many others, formed many opinions about what transpired on July 2nd 1937 in the Central Pacific. First there was the official government statement, she crashed and sank. Then Fred Goerner’s ground breaking work about a secret mission to photograph Japanese installations in the Japanese Mandated Islands. Also, there was Paper TIGHAR’s hypothesis, loudly touted Read more [...]

An Airplane on Gardner Island?

26 Mar
It seems that Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for TIGHAR is to put out a press release touting their new find first, and then start an investigation. Not surprisingly many of their press releases have been proven wrong; many of their assumptions have turned out to be wishful thinking. But Ric Gillespie continues to crank out publicity that endeavors to make the general public believe that anything found on Gardner/Nikumaroro Island that isn’t a coconut, a crab or a bird, came from Amelia Earhart’s Read more [...]

Earhart Mystery Briefcase Still Unfolding-Saipan 1944

23 Jan
On 5/11/12 we spoke to Ed T. Jones, now 85, who lives in Florida. He was a close friend and WWII buddy of Bob Wallack. Bob, now deceased, was a  U.S. Marine machine-gunner in Saipan. Wallack was the person who, in Jones’ own words, “,,,ordered the safe in the Garapan, Saipan Municipal Building blown up by demolition experts. Inside the safe was a briefcase. The briefcase contained all the navigational gear Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan had. The briefcase was ‘dry as a bone’. The Read more [...]

Earhart’s Personal Camera & Luggage Labels

19 Jan
by Filo Vance Amelia’s cameras 'talked' to me... The initial Kodak 620 Duo camera came to me under rather strange circumstances. Let’s just say that what I have since learned makes me believe it to be the one which was supposedly in the Earhart/Putnam antique Washington Irving desk 'mostly destroyed in the fire at their Rye, NY estate which occurred on or near Thanksgiving day, 1934'. With this in mind and history available from Purdue University I discovered Amelia lost many of her Read more [...]

WE DISAGREE WITH TIGHAR’S EARHART THEORIES

12 Jan
This is a copy of a memo we e-mailed to folks on our mailing list. 1-10-14 WE DISAGREE WITH TIGHAR’s EARHART THEORIES BY ROBERT WHEELER AND FRED NICELY We are writing to you because you have shown an interest in our research in the past. We have exciting news. Here at Amelia Earhart Controversy we have been “on the fence” so to speak. The two Earhart landing theories (TIGHAR’s Gardner Island and Fred Goerner’s  Mili Atoll) have merits. Our book, Amelia Earhart Betrayed was based Read more [...]

Filo Vance on Earhart’s Camera & Disappearance

09 Jan
10/23/13  Personally I doubt it was AE & Noonan on Niku, nor that sonar scan is of an aluminum-skinned wing 1,000 feet below (I've seen aluminum cans disappears in less than 10-years on a tropical bottom and modern cola cans have far more protection while being much thinner – 80-some years more than make up for that!).   While I have read your book, I am still more convinced that the Navy’s search was a cover. I think crashing on Mille Atol in the Marshalls a more probable fate, with Read more [...]

Earhart’s Freckle Cream Does a Vanishing Act

30 Dec
Yet another “hot lead” by The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) has fizzled under the bright light of logic based research. To TIGHAR’S credit, much of the undoing of the “2012 Dr. Berry’s Freckle Ointment Jar publicity storm” was due to their own research.  All the freckle cream that was sold in the type of jar uncovered at the “7 Site” on Gardner Island (Nikumaroro) was opal glass (opaque white). The jar uncovered by TIGHAR is clear glass.  The white Read more [...]
