When Amelia Earhart addressed a small crowd at Galesburg, Illinois, the media focused on her snack choices and her hands. On October 16, 1935 a reporter wrote, “…noticed the beauty of Amelia’s hands and effective manner with which she used them to emphasize her recollections.” The crowd was held spellbound listening to her account of her adventurous solo flight across the Atlantic. They learned about her struggles with strong freezing winds and the dangers of the Vega’s icy wings. They loved hearing about her penchant for tomato juice, candy bars and malted milk tablets.
