People have imitated Amelia Earhart in many ways.

Earhart Light (also known as the Amelia Earhart Light), a navigational day beacon on Howland Island (has not been maintained and is crumbling).

In 1967, Ann Dearing Holtgren Pellegreno and a crew of three successfully flew a similar aircraft (a Lockheed 10A Electra) to complete a world flight that closely mirrored Earhart’s flight plan. On the 30th anniversary of her disappearance, Pellegreno dropped a wreath in Earhart’s honor over tiny Howland Island and returned to Oakland, completing the 28,000-mile (45,000 km) commemorative flight on July 7, 1967.

Through the efforts of Earhart and other proponents of aviation like the female pilot’s association, the Ninety-Nines, many women have earned their pilots license. Despite their encouragement the Federal Aviation Administration reports that only 6% of U.S. pilots are female.,

And now the UGLY, the Earhart light monument has fallen into disrepair.

Although this monument has almost been forgotten, Amelia’s spirit is still alive.

The video is gone! There have been many ‘prank’ exhibits about AE & Fred. Halloween of 2013 on eBay had AE’s shrunken head (a good if gruesom likeness, complete with anatomically correct full-size skull, grayish ‘leather flesh’ stretched tight and real human hair done approximately as AE’s short tassled look & coloration). The seller, we believe, had done such with other famous individuals, since references were supplied.
Some place over the intervening years since their disappearance, pliable models much like the GI-Joe series have been marketed of both AE & Fred. The appeal of these to young readers, however, comes in second to the Amelia dolls – made over the last 70-years by various toy manufacturers… these have become regular collector’s treasures; the last that I know of somehow associated with Snoopy & te Red Baron! The most highly sought-after is that of Amelia in cover-alls type flight suit with a brightly colored scarf below her helmeted/goggled head, regularly sells for $25 and up!

Phil (Filo), thanks for all your comments. You have great insight and are very observant. I don’t know whether to laugh or feel disdain for all the weird Earhart “collectibles ” out there. I will just shake my head. Bob
